What is the Human Rights Ambassador Programme?
The Human Rights Ambassador Programme is an enriching, leadership-orientated initiative to empower young Jewish human rights activists. It is designed to help budding young Jewish activists bring about change in their communities, campus and on a larger scale. The programme will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to advocate in support of marginalised communities and to campaign for change in specific human rights areas that resonate with Jewish values and experience.
Becoming a Human Rights Ambassador will help you to refine and amplify your voice as an activist in the UK. You do not need to have any previous activist experience to take part – just a willingness to make the world a better place, and enthusiasm and dedication to learn. University and Sixth-Form Students can receive free, bespoke human rights training at a time when it couldn’t matter more.
The programme will involve three seminars, some 1-1 calls and individual work time to bring about your own social justice project.
Seminar dates:
Seminar One – An introduction to Human Rights – date TBC (Online)
Seminar Two – An introduction to Campaigning and Activism – date TBC (Online)
Seminar Three – Presentation and Graduation Ceremony – Date TBC, (If possible, in the Houses of Parliament/Central London).
As part of the programme, you will:
- Hear from ‘a speaker by experience’ who has a personal story to tell about human rights violations today
- Learn about René Cassin’s current campaigns and the role it plays in promoting human rights in the UK
- Hear from highly experienced campaigners who will teach and advise you how best to run campaigns
- Choose a human rights theme that René Cassin campaigns against and create your own human rights project
- Get support from René Cassin and be paired up with a mentor who will guide you through your project
- Potentially (logistical issues permitting) present your project to a panel in the House of Commons and take part in a discussion about the role of young people in activism
The application deadline is Monday the 27th November 2023.
