At this pivotal time for the Conservative Party, and ahead of the Conservative Party Conference, we wish to see a strong show of support for the rule of law and human rights at the upcoming conference.
As such, we wish to see the Tories emphasise the importance of the rule of law and democracy and crucially display a commitment to the European Convention on Human Rights, which they helped to bring about in the first place. Yet we are aware of the legacy of centuries of British jurisprudence which went into this, starting with the Magna Carta over 800 years ago. We ask the Conservative party not to forget this proud legacy at their conference, when choosing a new leader, or as the official opposition in the new Parliament.
