Spending time on work experience at René Cassin was both an intellectually enriching and deeply meaningful experience. As an organisation dedicated to promoting human rights through a Jewish lens, René Cassin’s work spans issues like asylum, modern slavery, and discrimination. During my placement, I had the opportunity to engage with these themes firsthand, researching policy developments, attending advocacy meetings, and contributing to ongoing campaigns. The emphasis on linking Jewish values to contemporary human rights issues provided a unique perspective on justice and social responsibility.
One of the most valuable aspects of my experience was the chance to work on projects addressing current human rights abuses, particularly those affecting Uyghurs. I helped describe government policies, explained what supply chains are, and contributed to discussions on the genocide. Observing how the organisation combined human rights expertise with activism demonstrated the power of informed advocacy in pushing for systemic change. It was also inspiring to work alongside passionate professionals who were committed to making a tangible difference. Their dedication reinforced my interest in using a belief in justice to drive positive social impact.
Beyond the research and policy work, my time at René Cassin deepened my understanding of the importance of community-driven advocacy. The organisation’s approach, rooted in Jewish principles of justice and dignity, highlighted how historical experiences can inform modern human rights struggles. This experience reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in rights with a focus on justice and equality.
